Arturo Hernandez is a noted educator, author, counselor and expert on gang involved youth. His book "Peace in the Streets: Breaking the Cycle of Gang Violence" was commissioned by the Child Welfare League of America, and won praise for its original and practical advice. He is founder of two schools for gang youth, and a former juvenile detention, middle school and high school principal. In 2006, he was awarded national educator of the year by the American Association of Hispanics in Higher Education.
